The surface of the earth is scarred by the events of the past and humans have always tried to to read this "history" in order to better understand their environment.  One of the most effective ways to do this has been the preparation and use of maps in one form or another.  With the progress of technology, mapping techniques have become more and more sophisticated, allowing the interpretation of landscape from continental scale down to the finest detail.  Using some of these techniques to look at the local area around Ormskirk has shown some unexpected and surprising results.
