CHARITY STATUS
The Aughton & Ormskirk u3a is a charity (registration number 1105255) which is regulated by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
The u3a's governing document is its Constitution, the latest version of which was adopted by the membership at the AGM held on the 29th June 2023. That Constitution is based upon a model provided by our national office, the Third Age Trust, to which we are affiliated.

POLICIES

FINANCE
The financial year of the u3a runs from 1st April to 31st March. At the end of each financial year, the treasurer produces the Report and Accounts which are submitted to the accountants (Accountants247 Ltd) for independent inspection. Once inspection is completed, the Report and Accounts are put to the AGM for acceptance.
Charity Law requires that we file a copy of the Report and Accounts annually with the Charity Commission, The Report and Accounts are uploaded to the Charity Commission's website as part of a Return with a wider remit. That entry on the Charity Register is available for public scrutiny.
The treasurer and assistant treasurers can be contacted via the Contacts page.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Subject to our accountants agreeing that the annual inspection of the accounts can be completed by 31st May, the AGM is held in June/July. Details of the AGM are advertised on the Welcome page. The AGM documents for the current and previous year can be got by clicking the buttons to the right.
COMMUNICATION
At the end of each month, a Newsletter (called enews) is sent electronically to all those members for whom we have an email address on the Beacon Membership System. (An unsubscribe facility is available.) The editor of enews can be contacted via the Contacts webpage.
At intervals throughout the year, a magazine is published. An online copy is available on the Magazine Page. Print copies are also available for collection at Horizons meetings. The editor of the magazine can be contacted via the Contacts webpage. Articles from groups, committees and members are welcomed.
For a complete list of methods of communicating information about the u3a, refer to Publicity Deadlines.
INSURANCE
Please note that the u3a does NOT provide any insurance cover regarding personal injury sustained while participating in a u3a activity. The onus is on each member to consider the matter of insurance and to put in place whatever he/she feels is appropriate.
Some groups use paid tutors. We insist that those tutors prove they have professional indemnity insurance cover. For exercise classes, we also request evidence of appropriate qualifications.
