An account of the geology and history of the metalliferous mining industry of the Carboniferous Limestone country between Kendal and Carnforth in the east and Millom in the west.

The iron industry in the Lake Counties slowly developed over centuries, with industrial growth spreading from the small bloomery and forge sites near the narrow veins on the fells, to the huge mining and iron smelting complexes of the late 19th and 20th centuries.

A talk by our very own Richard Fletcher on South Cumbrian Geology.
