The March Speaker Meeting welcomed Stuart Wood and Bob Cannell from the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society who gave a superb presentation about the Restoration of the Danny (the Daniel Adamson Steam tugboat) to a huge audience.
Dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers from the ‘Daniel Adamson Preservation Society’ told the remarkable story of the Danny, "The Tug that Survived to Sail Again".
The Daniel Adamson is a coal-fired steam tug tender launched in 1903 from the golden age of British engineering and it had a career ranging from towing humble barges to entertaining Kings and Queens in the Art Deco Lounge on the famous Manchester Ship Canal.
Sadly, after a working life of over 80 years, she was abandoned and destined for the scrap yard.
It is amazing to learn that at the 11th hour in 2004 she was rescued by a dedicated group of volunteers and after many trials and tribulations was returned to her former working glory, sailing the waterways of the Northwest for the enjoyment of all.
